Car buying

How hard can it be to buy a second hand car? I mean, they are like rats aren’t they? It doesn’t matter where you are there will be a car within 5 metres of you. Or something.

I’m getting fed up of my current car. I love it but it can seriously do my head in. It leaks terribly at the best of times but after this wet summer it is really bad. The footwell behind the passenger front seat is waterlogged. I can actually hear it slosh as I drive around corners. The rest of the carpet is so damp that I have funghi growing on the passenger side at the front. My drive is at the back of the house facing north so I don’t get enough sun to dry it out, ever.

My car is okay for pottering about my town and surrounding area but it isn’t any good for further afield. The seat is slowly collapsing as the belts give way so my back isn’t supported. The road noise is dreadful and so very very tiring, plus if I ever do any motorway driving I’m listening to every single noise coming from the engine just in case something goes wrong. Plus motorway driving in a car with a top speed of 70mph after it takes a few minutes to accelerate just isn’t safe on our congested, freight dominated, motorways anymore. I once spent a very unpleasant mile trapped between three lorries. One on front, one behind and the third overtaking all of us…for a mile! Very scary, as it was raining hard and my wipers only do one speed.

So, decision made. I need another car. I need an estate though and they are not so easy to find. I need one for two reasons

1) I have two big dogs

2) I want to get into kidnapping scenarios so the car has to be big enough to chuck a bagged and tied up bloke into the back, and reliable enough so that I don’t have to explain to the AA man why I have a trussed up guy in the boot.

Can I find a decent estate for a decent price though? I did find a nice Saab but they wanted too much for it considering that two tyres needed replacing, one immediately because it was illegal, and it only had 6 months MOT on it. In the same sales pitch the salesman told me that it was a nice runner and that they never drive the cars off the forecourt. Work that one out. I’m always suspicious of cars that have all the optional extras fitted too, too many things that can break in my opinion.

I think I’ll look for a Jap car, they go forever don’t they.

  1. Sound more like you need a small van for all your needs ;)

  2. Their are some nice SUV’s ( sport utility vehicle ),even some Jeep’s * it was only a thought,so…!
( I know that path somewhat your talking about though )
    Wish ya luck! :-)

  3. I did consider a van actually but I think I’d prefer a car. Vans only have two seats. SUVs and Jeeps tend to be expensive for parts when things go wrong and surprisingly don’t have that much boot space for bodies. :)

  4. Search ebay for the Audi A4 Avant it is a lovely estate to drive. I had one for two big German Shepherds ;)
