Wind

PARP!

Nooooo, not that sort :D

I’ve just got back from a walk with the dogs.  It’s a gorgeous day today, blue skies, white fluffy clouds and WIND. Loads of it. I didn’t realise before I set off though or I would have wrapped up a bit warmer.

We started off with a pleasant amble through the woods towards the top of the hill. When we got to the top of the hill I was nearly blown over. My ears were soon freezing and aching, my nose turned red and my hair wrapped itself around my face. Desperately trying to peel my hair away from my face simply to see where I was walking I was approached by a guy in a thick woolly hat, walking his collie.

‘Eeeee, it’s a bit draughty eh?’

Yorkshiremen are masters of the understatement. Draughty? It was a force nine gale I am sure.  I was facing the wind to get back to the car and I could barely breathe, let alone speak! I battled bravely forward as the dogs chased the seagulls on the top field. Seagulls? I live on the Pennines. That means the west coast is about 60 miles away and the east coast about 70 miles. So why on earth do we have seagulls in West Yorkshire?

By the time I got back to the car I looked a state, my hair was all over the place, like a windswept bird’s nest, and my makeup had run and smudged around my eyes…I looked like Amy Winehouse after a romantic evening out with her husband…minus the blood of course.

I came home, picked up the wheelie bin from the middle of the back road for the fifth time today and have shut two very tired, very muddy dogs in the kitchen to dry off.

And hurrah hurrah it’s still not raining :D

  1. Why on earth do you have seagulls in West Yorkshire? For the same reason that your wheelie-bin has been in the middle of the road: at least it didn’t do an exchange with the seagulls and trundle off to Scarborough or somewhere.

  2. The seagulls were blown 60 odd miles by the wind?

  3. Yes, when it’s a bit draughty on the coast, seagulls regularly “go with the flow” and turn up far inland.

Next time you go out walking in a Yorkshire breeze, you could try wearing a turban!

  4. Sounds like you had yourself one little outing that was more then you wished for! ( nice to have a warm house away from the outside elements eh ) :-)

  5. Oh gosh, you’re so right PRH :)
